You want your skin to be perfect. To have that soft, supple feel that would make a baby smile, and a subtle glow that reveals your smooth features. Of course, don’t we all want this? What you may not know, however, is that your shower habits could help you obtain this. They could oust dry, crusty and itchy skin for good, and create the silky smooth skin you dream of. Here’s 6 ideas to achieve just that.
1. Ease up on the hot water
Hot showers can undoubtedly be relaxing, but they can also wreak havoc on the natural moisture in your skin, leaving you red faced and itchy. So how can you still feel relaxed without the hot shower? Just turn the heat down slightly so it’s warm instead of hot. We recommend keeping the temperature below 38 degrees maximum. This will preserve the natural oils in your skin, leaving you with a healthy look.
2. Try a gentle spray
Some shower heads are just plain powerful. The spray shoots out of the shower like a rocket, catapulting into your skin with a damaging force that can easily irritate your skin. This is why we recommend easing up on the force of your spray. For some shower heads this is an easy fix: simply lower the water pressure by adjusting your shower’s valve. If this doesn’t work, we recommend trying our X Jet shower, as it was designed to solve this very problem.
The head of X Jet contains 12 cascade water outlets that produce two streams of water that spray out in an X shape pattern, causing the streams to collide before ever touching your skin. This creates a gentle, cascade spray that is soothing on your skin.
3. Hold the loofa
People today are so used to using loofahs, washcloths and sponges, that you’d never guess they can actually damage your skin. Yes, they can exfoliate your skin, but there is a fine line between a soft and hard scrub, and crossing that line can leave you skin red and irritated.
Even worse, your loofa when hung up in the moist environment that is your shower becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. As you use it shower after shower, that bacteria builds up and then is applied to your skin as you wash yourself day after day, which can lead to skin infections. A washcloth or sponge can cause the same problem, which is why we recommend simply using soap applied directly to the skin.
4. Use a natural soap
Most of us are aware these days that many soaps contain chemicals. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise then, that these chemicals can strip the natural oils from your skin causing it to become rough and dry. At Aquas, we recommend using a natural soap, without added fragrances or antibacterial detergents. This will help keep your skin healthy, soft and smooth to touch.
5. Avoid excessive showering
After a long day, it can be tempting to spend 20 or 30 minutes in the shower. We at Aquas highly recommend you avoid this practice and keep your showers under 5, 10 minutes tops, and take no more than one shower a day. This will ensure your skin doesn’t dry out, and you’ll even save some water in the process.
6. Moisturize immediately after
You’ve followed all the steps above and are excited about the results. But the path to perfect skin doesn’t stop here. There’s one final step, and it’s key to the glowing complexion you’re hoping for. Moisturize. This advice goes for men too. As soon as you step out of the shower, pat your skin dry gently with a towel and then apply an oil or cream-based moisturizer. This will help seal the moisture in your skin, leaving it fresh and smooth all day.
If you follow all the above steps, you will avoid drying out your hair and skin, and look healthier and younger in the process. We encourage you to give our X Jet shower a try. Not only will it likely be gentler on your skin than your current shower, but it will also give you the feeling of showering under a waterfall. Check it out here today.
